A social enterprise creating pathways out of homelessness.
HoMie envisions an Australian society free of homelessness. It's primary mission is to build confidence and provide job skills for young people, and, in doing so, create unique pathways out of homelessness and hardship.
HoMie began with a group of friends talking to and connecting with people living on the streets of Melbourne. Marcus, Nick and Robbie started to share these stories via their Facebook page, Homelessness in Melbourne.
Three years later, the team has transformed their vision for a fairer society into ‘HoMie’ - an ethical and sustainable Australian-made brand, with a flagship store in Fitzroy. We are proud that HoMie is Australia’s first retail clothing store and fashion label to provide brand-new clothing and occupational training to young people experiencing homelessness.
100% of HoMie’s profits go towards people experiencing homelessness or hardship, through our Pathways Project and VIP Shopping Days.
Twice a year, three HoMie Interns participate in a six-month training and employment program. The internship includes paid employment, on-the-job experience at HoMie’s flagship store, and accredited learning through Knowledge Space to gain a Certificate III in Retail Operations.
On VIP Shopping Days, people experiencing homelessness are invited into HoMie with a partner service to be our VIP Customers. These people each receive five free items of brand-new clothing to choose at their discretion, grooming, food/refreshments, and a friendly chat with our team of staff and volunteers. Apart from providing clothing, HoMie VIP Shopping Days aim to increase feelings of social connectedness, and also bring our VIPs into contact with the broader HoMie support network.
