Since 2015 HoMie has been challenging the stigmas around homelessness, creating meaningful ways to contribute to the issue and advocating for our mission. HoMie Talks is a suite of offerings to engage, inspire and educate, so we can tackle youth homelessness together.

100% of profits from HoMie Talks go towards our mission, to support young people affected by homelessness or hardship.

HoMie Store Talks

Store Talks are an opportunity for your school, community group or workplace to visit the HoMie Store on bustling Brunswick Street, Fitzroy. A friendly team member will share the HoMie Story and your group can also shop our product and soak up the HoMie Store vibes!

School Talks

 HoMie School talks connect students with an impact driven story to motivate and inspire. We can attend your school in person or online, and compliment your curriculum with an engaging and youth focused presentation along the themes of Social Enterprise, Social Justice and Sustainability.

Workshops

Youth Homelessness 101

Youth Homelessness 101 is an introductory workshop for your group to learn about youth homelessness, the wider issues and contributing factors, and the experiences of young people facing homelessness.

  • Challenge the stigmas around youth homelessness
  • Feel more confident when interacting with or speaking about youth homelessness
  • Develop empathy for the day-to-day experiences of young people affected by homelessness
  • Become familiar with the Australian based research, statistics and reality of youth homelessness
  • Receive answers to questions relating to youth homelessness
  • Learn how you can contribute to ending youth homelessness Hear from lived experiences advocates

Before the day: HoMie will conduct a pre-workshop survey to gather insights on your teams level of understanding of the issue, purpose for engaging the training, and key context to tailor the workshop to you and your group.

On the day: HoMie will host an engaging, interactive and educational workshop. HoMie can also coordinate catering from a hospitality Social Enterprise of your choice to accompany the workshop. Participants will fill out a feedback survey.

After the day: HoMie will share key insights and outcomes of the survey back to you via an impact report.

Ellen (she/her) is the Head of Impact at HoMie and one of HoMie’s founding members. Ellen has designed and implemented our Impact programs since 2015, with years of experience creating empathetic employment environments for young people affected by hardship. Ellen is enthusiastic and relatable in her presentation style, and has a knack for creating comfortable spaces for people to learn. She has delivered these workshops to Disney, Canva, Retail Prodigy Group, Hanes Brand, Cotton On Group and more. HoMie also has a community of Alumni and lived experience advocates who can co-faciliate the workshop, depending on the opportunity.

Supporting young people in your workplace

HoMie’s facilitators translate relevant youth work theory to your workplace, to equip employers with knowledge to create safe, inclusive and productive environments for young people to thrive at work. Teams will grow skills and confidence in working with young people, especially those from marginalised backgrounds who face barriers to employment.

  • Australian-based research examining barriers and discrimination
  • Develop empathy for the day-to-day experiences of young people who face barriers to employment
  • Identify ways to create a more inclusive workplace culture for young people
  • Practical developed tools and approaches to your workplace
  • Become familiar with research backed frameworks for motivating employees
  • Learn from lived experience advocates and experienced employment program facilitators
