Our Production
WHERE ARE YOUR GARMENTS MADE?
Some of our garments are produced locally in Melbourne, manufactured using high quality cotton by the team at Qualitops and printed at Redwood Press. Our accessories (gloves, socks, beanies), are made at LMB Knitwear in Brunswick.
Being an ethically minded business is important to us. In 2020, the exciting and growing nature of our social enterprise and mission meant an opportunity to explore and engage with alternative suppliers and manufacturers. HoMie works closely with Maker and Co., a Sydney-based organisation who work solely ethically approved businesses.
HoMie production takes place in the Shandong Province in China - this business is annually audited by SGS, the world’s leading inspection, verification, testing and certification company. The audit is conducted according to the SMETA Best Practices and SMETA Measurement Criteria, including Labour standards, Health and Safety, Environment and Business Ethics and it is extended to all types of workers at the site.
Ethical production in Australia comes at a very high expense to any business - in order for us to continue our primary mission, to support young people affected my homelessness or hardship, we moved to a more cost-effective production model, without compromising on quality or ethics.
International certification companies will continue to look after our offshore supplier, and any garments or products produced locally are Ethical Clothing Australia (ECA) accredited.
You can learn more about ECA here.
DO YOU REUSE OR RECYCLE CLOTHING?
Yes! Any remaining seasonal stock from HoMie releases is used as part of HoMie's VIP Days, providing young people affected by homelessness with brand new clothing. We also utilise remaining seasonal garments, in addition to other materials and pieces sourced from op shops, second hand stores and factory floors, to produce REBORN garments. Find out more here.
