Hey! We’d like you to meet REBORN by HoMie.

REBORN by HoMie gives clothing a new life. We produce one-off, upcycled garments made from preloved clothing and second hand materials. Each garment is unique and is hand cut, sewn, and altered in Melbourne.

We’ve sourced garments from vintage stores and op shops, discarded pieces and scraps from factory floors to give them a second shot at being loved.

With the world's retail space being dominated by fast fashion brands and widespread consumerism - mass waste is a part of our reality. Last year, over 83 billion new clothing items were made from new resources. Typically, production of one t-shirt requires 2,700 litres - this is completely unsustainable.

Not only are we producing huge amounts of new clothing, approximately 6,000kg of fashion waste is sent to landfill every 10 minutes in Australia, with remaining waste often sent to places like Ghana, Hong Kong and Cambodia, out of sight and out of mind.

Additionally, decomposing clothing ruins soil and releases methane greenhouse gas which is toxic for our environment.

It is important we acknowledge our over consumption of clothing is having a direct impact on our environment and our climate. Rethinking fashion and using creative ways to repurpose and adopt a more sustainable model is imperative in moving forward.

Currently, there are no scalable solutions or recycling options for this growing pile of landfill, especially blended fabrics. However, we have some incredible pioneers who are paving the way for a new generation of sustainability and textile recovery. HoMie Board Chair Adrian Jones from Blocktexx is aiming to launch a world-first technology and recycling plant in 2020, that breaks down garments, then recycles and repurposes them into useful raw materials for other industries.

REBORN by HoMie was created as we are extremely passionate about raising awareness and educating people about the over consumption of clothing and the impact it has on the environment. By repurposing garments that were headed for landfill, we are doing our best to reduce our carbon footprint.

We understand that not everyone wants to wear secondhand clothing. We will continue to supply ethically sourced garments and ensure minimal waste through the HoMie brand. If we have a rollover of stock from our collections, they are used for our VIP Shopping Days. Once a month we close our doors to the public and welcome in young people from different homelessness support services to shop for free at the HoMie store. Learn more about our VIP Days here

REBORN was created to close the loop in the fashion industry and turn trash into treasure.

Love.
